Memorial Day Weekend 2008
We had the privilege of honoring our Veterans by bringing in special guest, Col. Oliver North. He reminded us of the great heritage that we have in this country of people who are willing to lay their lives down to maintain the freedoms that we currently enjoy. I was very impressed by his graciousness and patience with the people that he came into contact with. For hours he shook hands and signed autographs for our Saturday night service and Sunday morning service as well. It was great to hear his personal testimony of how he received Jesus as Lord of his life and then encouraged all of us to be a witness.
Lesley McDaniel and the worship team sang with conviction, “God Bless the USA” as the audience stood all over the building. Just before the song, Pastor gave a strong word, which recieved a whole hearted applause, on how this church loves America. While some pastors have a different sentiment, we say God BLESS America!
The choir sang “Salute to the Armed Forces Medley”. As each branch’s song was sung the various members would stand all over the building. I had assigned one representative to walk the aisle while the appropriate song was sung. Col. Childers represented the Air Force, Sgt. Al Grounds, represented the Army, the commanding officer from the Navy Honor Guard represented the Navy and we had 6 Marines who rappelled from the ceiling and took their spot to represent their branch of service.

I’m so glad we have a Pastor who will honor our Veterans. At the conclusion of both services, Pastor invited all the Veterans to please stand and then directed them down 3 aisles of the church while the entire audience clapped and cheered. They had the first opportunity to shake hands with Col. North.
Having traveled to closed nations, communistic societies, I am truly grateful to be an American. I’m thankful that we are the nation who is number one for sending out missionaries and help in crisis times to other countries. God BLESS America!

Wow Sarah! That sounds like an awesome time. Great job describing the event with Col. Oliver North. I got goose bumbs just imagining what an intense feeling of patriotism must have been surrounding each person in that church. And how proud and honored we should be to be Americans. We are blessed beyond measure!!
